September 13, 2024

Since February 2024 KEPE has been an integral part of a strong consortium of six countries – France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain – with diverse expertise coming from a combination of research institutions, public authorities in charge of longitudinal data and national tests, and agencies/foundations working at school level. Researchers involved in the project are all experts on inequalities in education and include different profiles such as statisticians, experts in the field of demographic research and economics of education, sociologists, experts on educational processes and pedagogists.

The consortium came together under the project LINEup funded by the European Union’s HORIZON EUROPE Framework Programme. LINEup aims at identifying key success factors for quality education for all, by mapping and analysing the research design and findings of existing longitudinal data on students’ learning outcomes at primary and secondary level. The project focuses on educational achievement and attainment of basic skills as key elements for personal development, employability, social inclusion and active citizenship. The overarching objective is to improve the evidence on what shapes educational outcomes over time and expand the knowledge base on student-centred interventions aiming at lifting the performance in basic skills and reducing early leaving from education and training, which are key challenges across Europe.

In this context, we are happy to announce LINEup’s opening event which will take place on September 20. It will be hosted by Karlsruhe University of Education in Germany, which is one of the few countries in Europe that systematically collects longitudinal data on education. This event will provide an opportunity to learn from the German experience and to discuss with experts, practitioners and policymakers the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of setting up and maintaining a longitudinal data collection to study inequalities in education.
