The Greek labor market is characterized by low participation and employment, with long-term unemployment of young people and women becoming endemic. The advent of the international financial crisis in Greece in 2008, in conjunction with the government’s deficit and debt has worsened employment rates and unemployment. However, formulating and implementing effective employment policies is hampered by insufficient knowledge of the functioning of the labor market. The present work deals with labor market issues which are considered critical for the design and implementation of policies aimed at helping reverse the situation.
